Great piece in of the recent issuing of Sara Kelly Keenan’s “intersex” birth certificate, featuring coverage of our own Dana Zzyym’s historic passport lawsuit for non binary intersex gender recognition, and Jamie Shupe’s non binary gender recognition in Oregon.

“Not all intersex people will choose to identify legally as intersex,” Keenan told NBC Out, “and not all parents will choose to have their intersex child identified as intersex on birth documents. But for those who do, the option must exist.”

We agree, and we thank Sara Kelly Keenan for her groundbreaking achievement for intersex people! Bigs thanks also to author Mary Emily O’Hara and for this respectful, thorough coverage of the recent boon in legal recognition of intersex and non-binary people! We have always believed that legal recognition is a critical step towards ending medical efforts to eliminate intersex people from society, and welcome another victory in accepting intersex people by legally validating our existence.
