Oregon becomes first state to offer non-binary driver’s licenses!

Oregon becomes first state to offer non-binary driver’s licenses!

As reported in Time, Oregon has become the first state to offer a non-binary gender option on driver’s licenses. Effective July 1st, residents will be able to select an “X”, representing “not specified”, instead of an M or F as their gender—with no doctor’s verification needed!

According to reports, those speaking in favor of adding the third option outweighed those speaking against it at public hearings held regarding the decision, which was finalized by Oregon’s transportation commission. Hurray for Oregon for recognizing that everyone should be allowed accurate gender representation, and that not everyone’s gender is male or female/man or woman! Big thanks also to Jamie Shupe for initiating this!

The Intersex Awareness Day 2016 Did You Know? List

By our E.D. Hida Viloria Today is #IntersexAwarenessDay, celebrated in honor of the first known intersex protest, held at a medical clinic in Boston exactly twenty years ago, on October 26th. Although we’ve made a lot of progress since then, let’s face it: we still need a lot more awareness about intersex people. I mean,… Continue Reading

Intersex-ionality: Why Confronting Racism Matters

Our E.D. Hida Viloria has been lobbying, writing, and speaking about the issues of racism, sexism, and interphobia in sporting regulations against intersex athletes since 2009, when black South Africa track star Caster Semenya was banned from competition. Sadly, however, when s/he tried, at an international intersex activism conference, to discuss the fact that women… Continue Reading
