Elizabeth Reis’s excellent piece on pronouns in the NYT

Elizabeth Reis’s excellent piece on pronouns in the NYT

In the essay “Pronoun Privilege,” published in Sunday’s New York Times, fantastic scholar and intersex ally Dr. Elizabeth Reis takes a look at the issues involved, from a professor’s perspective, with making people disclose their preferred pronouns to a group of strangers. Reis — who some of you may remember published the essay, “Divergence or disorder?: the politics of naming intersex” back in 2007, which critiqued the pathologization of intersex people — has been a pioneering, conscientious voice in gender issues, and we thank her for bringing this perspective and approach to the pronoun issue as well. Enjoy.
